Hello Jerome.

Some aquarists do use play sand without any reported problems (as far as I know). I prefer to use marine derived materials, such as coarse coral sand, coral gravel and the like. For a deep sand bed (DSB) a fine sand is required and marine derived materials can be found for this.

You could find it useful to put questions on the Forum, there are plenty of categories to choose from.

Hi. New to this with many questions. First. Can you use play sand. For an aquarium. I am hearing conflicting reports on this. I have a 55 gallon tank and am planning to use live rock. Thanks!

Hi Deborah, thanks for visiting and thanks for faming us - it means a lot to hear that people are enjoying and benefiting from our posts.

There does not appear to be that many blogs around in relation to aquariums - strange really considering how popular this hobby is.

Anyway thanks for popping by and for your great comment.

We've had a number of aquariums over the years, mostly salt water. We used to use a tray beneath the sand with a filer under it that would help keep the sand clear from detritris.

So cool to see a blog about aquariums! Famed you and your blog on blogging to fame :-)

Keep up the good work!
