<description>Re:Will LED Lighting Ever Replace Metal Halide?

A couple corrections. LED lights can last upwards of 100,000 hours not 20,000. Most are rated at least for 50,000 hours. LED tube lights have an aluminum housing in the upper half of the bulb that dissipates the heat upwards. The canopy lights act in the same way dissipating heat into the fixture without the use of fans. Also it should be noted that tube LEDs do not require ballast therefor can consume up to 70% less energy then standard T8 fluorescent. Generally the payback period for LED tubes or canopy is less then 1.5 years. When including maintenance costs of replacing bulbs this payback period is even less. Its also worth noting that LED containt no harmful chemicals like mercury.

Thanks,
Matt
